In the words of Oscar Wilde, "To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance."
With Valentine's Day right around the corner, I need to get something off my chest. I love love. If I'm not loving, then I'm talking about love. However, in my humble opinion, this "holiday" places such an unnecessary pressure and expectation of how the ideal day and experience should be. When we are constantly looking outside of ourselves for that special someone, it's no wonder we end up in the wrong relationships, situations, etc. How do we expect to receive all these goodies when we can't even give it to ourselves? {We accept the love we think we deserve}. Recognize your self-worth and so will the world. Simple as that.
So how about 3 tips to start off your "Self-Love Day" {which should be every damn day!} in the right direction?
1. Surround yourself with beauty. A true Taurean at heart, this is music to my ears. Run me a bubble bath with a bottle of Taittinger waiting. Fill up the room with classical music, and let's dance and twirl to Tchaikovsky.
2. Do you have a mantra? One of my favorites:
Breathe In
Breathe Out
Move On
Funny but to the point.
Whatever it is that keeps you empowered and motivated, recite it throughout the day. Such a game changer as well as a daily mood booster. Remember, your inner dialogue is the window to your reality. You are exactly who you say you are. Be mindful of your words. Be kind. The world is your oyster.
3. I don't know about you but I love my me time. In fact, I love taking myself out on dates! Take a stroll on the beach; see an arthouse film; write a letter to an old friend; plant some flowers; drive aimlessly; spend the day naked... whatever! Just do you and savor every second.
Even though I'm 3 weeks early, Happy Valentine's Day Everyday to all you lovebirds. Because that's what you intrinsically are, with or without a partner.
Love
